Twilight Market Objective
To present an eclectic, home-grown community market that will draw visitors to the downtown area on a regular basis. The side-effect of the market will be “walkabout” through our district and planting the seeds for new businesses to grow here.
Who sponsors Twilight Market?
Kenosha Lakeshore Business Improvement District sponsors Twilight Market. The Twilight Market Committee, consisting solely of BID members, handles the operations and marketing of the market. The Twilight Market Jury will consist of founding members of the Twilight Market committee and those chosen by this committee.
Twilight Market Location
We will apply for street closure of Sixth Avenue, from 54th to 59th. We will fill spaces and actually close from 56th to 58th first, then, when needed, expand 58th to 59th and then 55th to 56th. When these streets fill, we will expand to Seventh Avenue from 56th to 57th, then 57th to 58th and finally 58th to 59th.
Vendors will be in the street, either to one side or in the middle of the street. Vendors will be assigned locations. Requests for a specific location can be made, but are not guaranteed. Approved “sell-from” vehicles are allowed to remain part of the market, all others must clear off 20 minutes before the start of the market. There are no tent requirements; vendors can use any 10X10 market tent if they choose. Table-only or free-standing display set-up is fine, as well. Vendors shall describe their planned set-up in the application so that it can be pre-approved by the Twilight Market Jury.
There will be no generators used. If electrical is required - and approved - for a particular vendor; they will be “sponsored” by a BID business who will supply an electrical outlet free of charge. The vendor will be responsible for their own outdoor rated extension cord and for taping it to the ground to eliminate any trip hazard.
Who will “market” at Twilight Market?
ALL vendors must submit an application, it will include, among other questions, a request for a detailed description of who will be working the booth and exactly what will be marketed/sold and how.
ANY downtown/Harborside business can vend on the street closure if they submit an application by deadline and they receive a confirmed location from the market committee.
BID and the Twilight Market committee reserve the right to accept or deny vendors based on saturation of like businesses, this is outside the chief-vendor-base of the market; farmers. Furthermore, an invitation to vend at Twilight Market does not constitute an agreement or contract for any future vending rights. Downtown BID reserves the right to withdraw vending rights at any time.
Vendors from outside the Downtown BID district will be chosen by the Twilight Market Jury; they will include:
Farmers
Limited to those selling cut flowers, herbs, plants, produce and/or other food they raise or create, these farmers will sell to individual customers. These factors will distinguish our market from grocery stores, road-side stands, and from other types of food marketing outlets. The critical issue is that farmers are selling, mainly the things they produce, directly to consumers on a seasonal basis.
Drink Vendors
BID shall have sole rights to selling soda and water on the market site.
Processed Food Supplier
Breads, cheeses, meats, jams/jellies/other canned goods, honey, etc. A limited number of vendors selling in each category will be permitted per processed food type to maximize sales for each of these vendors.
Artisans
Our artisan vendors will consist of local artists, crafters, photographers, etc. who are selling their own handy-work or work from a group of local artisans. Artisans shall not sell items purchased wholesale or otherwise.
Retail
Retail vending shall be a small portion of the market and may be limited to businesses who are located on the perimeter of our district; Union Park, Uptown, North/South Sheridan, East 52nd Street Corridor, Brass, Harbor Park, etc. Thus, strengthening our ties with the outside communities we touch. Retailers from outside this area are welcome to apply. All decisions are at the sole discretion of the Twilight Market Jury.
Food Vendors
Since we are going for a “market” atmosphere and not a “fest” atmosphere, food vendors will be limited. Visitors will be encouraged to patronize the numerous food establishments in our district.
Miscellaneous
A vendor who does not fit into any of the above categories can submit an application to tell us how they might be a vital part of our market. Vendors will be invited at the discretion of the Twilight Market Jury.
