Warm weather has finally returned to Kenosha, appearing to bring everything and everyone out of a sleepy winter reverie. Second Saturdays, a free event from 6-9 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month, is also in full swing and livelier than ever, providing a great opportunity for residents and visitors to get out, shake off the winter “blahs” and enjoy the community. The balmy weather we’re enjoying also makes it even more pleasant to visit the participating shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants, many of which are within walking distance of each other. Adding to the fun is the fact that the Union Park, downtown and harborside areas are a veritable treasure hunt for adults during Second Saturdays. You never know what kind of gems await you at the next gallery or the next business, be it music, art or food. Grown-ups aren’t the only ones who can enjoy Second Saturdays though. If family fun is what you’re looking for, you’ll find it! With so many establishments participating each month, it’s guaranteed that you won’t run out of things to see or do.
At the various local art galleries, stop in to see amazing pieces created by artists from Kenosha and beyond, whether it’s paintings, drawings, mosaics, sculpture, jewelry, or perhaps even a different medium that you’re discovering for the first time. Expect to be warmly welcomed, and possibly encouraged to enjoy some hors d’oeuvres while you peruse all of the art. Many of the galleries also hold opening night receptions for featured artist shows on Second Saturdays, offering the unique opportunity to meet and talk with some of the artists whose work is on display.
